Helpful hints and tips for choosing a web designer!
Don't be intimidated by all the internet
language and fancy terms that most of us don't understand. Unless you are
adept at computer science, you don't need to know all those terms that make
no sense. You need help and to ask for help it is a good thing to know what
you want to ask. Ask anyone you know who has a web site about it. Find out
who did it and if they are happy with it. This can help you to decide but
before you go too far too fast, answer a couple very important questions and
then match those answers with who will do your design.

Who or what are you? In other words, are you a big business or a
corporation that is looking for
the utmost in professional graphics and quality presence on the web? Choose
accordingly. Not all web designers have the tools or the knowledge to do
that for you. Many designers aren't interested in doing small sites and may
charge a fee that is much too high. Shop around and find someone who
specializes in what you are looking for. Although you are not buying a car
or a house, web design costs can add up and it can become overwhelming.
Don't spend your money foolishly. Ask to view websites that a designer has
done. Not only can you get to see their work but you may be able to contact
the owner and ask some questions.

What do you want to achieve with a web site? Do you want your picture
and a biography about yourself so your friends and family can see you and
all your photographs? Do you want to have a site to share information or
knowledge you possess? Maybe you have a product to sell or you're interested
in making money from an internet business? Know what you want to do and be
specific. Time and experience has shown that the more specific you are in
your "theme" the easier you are to find on the world wide web. There are
billions of pages of web site information and knowing what you would like to
achieve and finding someone that knows how to realize those goals is a huge
advantage to you. If all you want is a couple of pages about yourself and a
picture or two so that you can say you can be found on the WWW probably a
lot of kids can do that but chances are they don't know nor do they
understand the importance of the design, layout, navigability and continuity
of a good design. |
